Africa Centre’s new home in Southwark increases its size to modern spaces with ambitions to launch its ‘Creative Hub’.
Aligned with its new vision, the Africa Centre is dedicated to develop a buzzing creative hub and nurturing environment that centralise talents and support ideas. It will also offer an opportunity for events and performances celebrating and promoting art and culture but also education and entrepreneurship.
In addition to its building, the Africa Centre has taken up two railway arches in October 2016 as one of the significant milestones towards shaping the Centre’s new goals and objectives. This environment will facilitate collaborations between businesses and ensure a mix of workspaces and studios as a place where skills and excellence are showcased not only across visual and performing arts, but also through the establishment of a community of active members looking to share ideas and grow their businesses.
This December, the arches will welcome designers, architects, techies and media. Individuals and start-ups will have access to a range of membership packages. Three levels of membership will be offered – individual membership (hot-desking), business membership (permanent desk/s) and studio membership (for slightly larger space), all available to members with an interest/link to African culture or business. ‘Creative Hub’ members will also benefit from networking opportunities, free use of informal meeting spaces with tea and coffee facilities, and preferential access to events, trainings and workshops held at the new Africa Centre.
In preparation for the upcoming launch, the Centre is hosting a series of consultation events to gather the community and industry experts around its new plan of activities articulated around 5 ‘pillars: ‘Culture’, ‘Entrepreneurship & Innovation’, ‘Education’, ‘Intellectual’ and ‘Social’. These events will take place from 10th November to 8th December 2016 and will enable to share views on the Centre’s future activities and reinforce ties with creatives, entrepreneurs as well as the wider public. Many of who, could have the opportunity to sign up as members and effectively embody the Africa Centre new entrepreneurial spirit.
