America Decides...

super tuesday 2

November 8th is only a few days away.  Over the past 12 months or so, we have seen an American election campaign like no other.  The reality of a Trump victory becomes closer as both candidates are now neck and neck in the polls.

From what I have seen in the media, Americans appear to be in between a rock and a hard place.  They just don’t love the two choices.  Who do you vote for?   Do you vote for someone who is under Federal investigation for using a private email server?  Or do you vote for someone who claims Africans are lazy, are only good at sex and stealing; someone who calls Mexicans rapists, and who denigrates women?

It seems the world has indeed gone crazy.  Take Brexit for instance.  No one saw that coming.

Which brings me to what I have always maintained all along.  I will not be surprised if Trump wins.

Some of Trump’s supporters are not worried about his character, personality or any of his diatribes.  They are not bothered about his lewd comments about women and the fact that he referred to those comments as ‘locker room talk’.

I am going to play devil’s advocate here.  Let’s face it, men talk like that all the time when they are in one another’s company.  They say worse.  And women do too.  Not nice I know.  Not presidential speak.  He made these comments several years ago and perhaps at that time he didn’t even know he was going to run for President.

Trump’s foreign policy hints at America finally staying out of other people’s business if he wins – in his foreign policy speech earlier this year he mentioned that America needs to get out of the nation-building business and instead focusing on creating stability in the world. He admitted that the US has made a mess of the situation in the Middle East.

The masses are fed up with the Establishment.  They are ready for something new.  Brexit, the rise of populist movements across the globe…. Let’s see what happens next week.  If he wins, international relations will enter into a new era.
